Nail Tech Commissions Without the Spreadsheet: Earning Rules and Tickets
In many nail salons, commissions live in a spreadsheet that only one person understands. Every week someone adds up tickets, applies each tech's percentage, checks retail sales separately, and hopes nothing was missed. When a tech asks how their number was calculated, the answer is buried in formulas.
Fair Flow takes a simpler route. You set the rules once for each staff member, and tickets do the math.
Earning Rules: set once per tech
Earning Rules are set for each staff member. They cover three things:
- Service commission on the services the tech performs.
- Product commission on retail products the tech sells.
- An hourly rate for staff paid by the hour, or as part of a mix.
Because the rules belong to each person, a senior tech and a new hire can have different rates without a separate tab for each. When a rate changes, you change it in one place.
Tickets do the math
Each digital ticket records the work done. Tickets calculate each staff member's earnings from their Earning Rules, so the number comes from what was recorded on the floor, not from a weekly rebuild.
That also makes the conversation with a tech easier. When someone asks how their number was reached, you can point to the tickets and the rules behind them. The answer is the same every time.
A weekly routine that holds
- When a tech joins: set their Earning Rules before their first shift.
- Every day: make sure each service and each retail sale is on a ticket.
- Once a week: review earnings for each staff member and look into anything unusual while the week is still fresh.
- When a rate changes: update the rule for that person, once.
What Fair Flow is not
Fair Flow is not payroll or payments software. It shows each staff member's earnings so you can use them with the payroll process you already have.
